THE ROUTE OF OUR TOUR |
At last, other than packing suitcases, all the preparation has been completed for our tour of China. It has taken several months to work out the route we wish to take, plan a few activities, sort out transport and accommodation, and get my Visa (Rubi doesn't need one). We fly to Beijing from Heathrow, via Berlin, and will hike a section of the Great Wall, amongst other things. Then it's an overnight train to Xi'an to see the Terracotta Army. An internal flight takes us on to Guilin to enjoy some walking in the rural surroundings and to take a cruise along the river Li. Finally, a bullet train will whisk us to Guangzhou for onward transport to Hong Kong where we will see Rubi's folks.
Somewhat surprisingly, Hong Kong, being built in the valleys between high mountains, is a hikers paradise. We look forward to enjoying both the city and the surrounding area on foot. The whole tour takes 24 days, of which 10 will be spent in Hong Kong. Naturally, a lot of time will be spent with Rubi's family. Our return flight to Gatwick is on Emirates, so we will stop in Dubai on the way back.
